MARION COUNTY, OHIO — As the Marion County Fair opens this week in Marion, the Ohio Republican Party is reminding Marion County voters that Democrat gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton quit her job rather than sign the order to let Ohio’s county fairs reopen. In her own recorded words, Acton has called the order to reopen the fairs “the final straw” that led to her resignation.

“And this one order in particular was the final straw for me. It was to open the fairs.” — Amy Acton

Chairman Alex Triantafilou of the Ohio Republican Party had this to say about the effort: “Amy Acton quit on Ohio rather than let families go to the county fair, and she has never had to answer for it. This summer, she will. At the Marion County Fair and in every corner of the state, our team and Republican leaders will be at the fairs Amy Acton tried to shut down. We will remind voters that when Republicans fought back against her wanting to shut down the fairs, she quit.”

State Representative Riordan McClain echoed that message: “In Marion County, fair week is sacred. Amy Acton fought to keep Ohio’s fairs closed, and when the order to reopen them reached her desk, she quit rather than sign it. Our families deserve leaders who show up for them, not ones who walk away.”

Shawn Barr, Chairman of the Marion County Republican Party, said the message hits close to home: “The Marion County Fair is one of the traditions that defines our community. It brings together families, supports our local agriculture and showcases the very best of Marion County. Ohioans deserve leaders who stand with their communities during difficult times, unlike former Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton, who resigned rather than sign the order reopening Ohio’s county fairs. As we celebrate another fair season, it’s important that voters remember the decisions that affected our fairs and the families who depend on them.”

Over the next twelve weeks, the Ohio Republican Party will be on the ground in all 88 counties. At every fair, Team Vivek will have a life-size cutout of Amy Acton and her shutdown of Ohio’s fairs, along with party volunteers handing out campaign literature.
